We used to have to explain what a Podcast was.
Good Morning.
Tuesday, September 29, 2020 — Success! I finished UCAP1011 yesterday, and got it posted. It’s a pretty fun episode, although we had some weird technical difficulties, some of which were recorded and some not.
Usually our microphone and VOIP troubles come from Jeb or Dave. I love them to death, but being tunnel-vision Windows users, they’re often having troubles with their systems. But this time it was me.
Connecting to the CAST voip system they immediately told me that my sound was really bad, bordering on unhearable.
After about 10 minutes of fiddling, including doing an actual REBOOT (!!!), I got things working, and we finally pressed RECORD.
Then, about 3 mins into the official episode Jeb disappeared from the connection. He reappeared a few mins later, and you heard us as we returned from that interlude, but we never figured out what happened.
Anyway, we finally got things in order, and the ep came out pretty good I think.
Have you guys heard of Podcasts?
For someone who has been doing a podcast for 15 years, I listen to a surprisingly low number of them.
From talking with listeners over the years I’ve learned that a lot of people listen to podcasts during certain times of day, like when commuting to/from work, or while working out.
I don’t commute to my job, and I’ve never liked listening to things while out walking or running, so that mass of time for podcast listening was not an option for me. But something has changed recently.
Still no commute, but for some reason I’ve started to get comfortable listening while on my daily walks.
I spend about 90 minutes every day walking (that’s another story, for another day) but I I’ve recently started this time to listen to podcasts. I began this “Reacquaintance with Podcasting” with the handful that I’ve listened to off-and-on all along, so now I’m getting caught up on recent eps.
I listen to the Maker podcast “Making It”, and the tech podcast “Accidental Tech Podcast”, and the very geeky podcast from my friend Jeff L “I Like Batteries”.
It only took a few days worth of walks to listen to all their recent eps, so now I’ve started exploring other podcasts.
Maybe I’ll write about these another time. But if you have any podcast recommendations please put them in the comments. Like the subhead of this newsletter says, I’m interested in Science, Technology, Aviation, and Pop Culture. And I’m open to learning about new things too.
Thanks for reading this far. If you like this letter, please LIKE, SHARE and SUBSCRIBE. And it’d be awesome of you if you became a member/supporter of my work at patreon.com/jackhodgson.
Thanks. See you next time.
